Spotlight: Ceramics

The 47th Annual National Council for the Education in the Ceramic Arts Conference, NCECA, was held in Houston, Texas in March. More than 100 exhibitions took place in conjunction with the conference and University of Tennessee School of Art faculty, students and alumni were well represented in them. Kevin Kao, MFA candidate, had work selected for one of the two featured exhibits, “NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition,” Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts. Jessica Kreutter, MFA 2010, had work included in three exhibitions: “Flight, the day I began to disappear,” Art League of Houston; “Glassell School Faculty Exhibit,” 1600 Smith Gallery and a conference long installation piece at the “NCECA Projects Space,” Houston Convention Center. Chris Pickett, BFA 2001, had new work on view at the “Archie Bray Resident Artist Exhibition,” 18 Hands Gallery. Tara Wilson, BFA 2000, had dinnerware on view in the “Santa Fe Clay: La Mesa Exhibition,” Houston Convention Center. Sally Brogden, Professor of Art, had two works on view in the exhibition “New Century Modern” at the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts where it travelled after having first been exhibited at Texas State University, San Marcos, TX.  Emily Bivens, Associate Professor of Art, had a bridge club project: “Inheritance” on View at Box 13 Art Space.








Beyond the exhibitions above, UT students and alumni were busy supporting their favorite residencies and current institutions at the NCECA conference. Carey Ellen Pettigrew, BFA candidate, was helping La Meridiana Ceramic Center, Italy, answer questions at their booth. Wes Smith, BFA 1999, Assistant Professor, University of North Dakota, was busy at his booth recruiting future students. Ron Geibel, UT Post Bac, was busy at the University of Montana booth speaking to potential students.
